Bamboo Batting

Bamboo batting is the rising star of the quilting world, appealing to eco-conscious quilters and those who love a silky-smooth drape. Made from processed bamboo fibers (often blended with a small percentage of cotton or polyester for stability), bamboo batting is remarkably soft and produces quilts with an elegant, flowing appearance.

Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource, making bamboo batting an environmentally friendly choice. The fibers are naturally anti-microbial and moisture-wicking, which means bamboo quilts stay fresh longer between washes. The drape is exceptional — bamboo quilts mold to the body beautifully, making them feel luxurious on a bed.

Bamboo batting typically allows 6-8 inches between quilting lines, similar to a cotton-poly blend. The fibers are stable enough for moderate quilting density, but very open quilting (over 8 inches) may allow some shifting over time. Machine quilting works well on bamboo, and the fibers do not resist the needle.

Machine wash on gentle cycle with cold or warm water. Tumble dry on low. Bamboo batting holds up well to regular washing and maintains its softness. Avoid bleach, which can break down the bamboo fibers. The natural anti-microbial properties mean bamboo quilts need washing less frequently.
