Polyester Batting

Polyester batting is the budget-friendly workhorse of the quilting world. Made from synthetic fibers, it offers high loft without the weight, making it perfect for puffy, cloud-like quilts. Polyester batting does not shrink, which means your finished quilt dimensions stay exactly as planned — no surprises after the first wash.

Available in a wide range of lofts from thin and flat to thick and fluffy, polyester batting adapts to virtually any quilting project. It is hypoallergenic, mildew-resistant, and incredibly lightweight, making it a practical choice for tied quilts, children's projects, and decorative pieces where loft matters more than drape.

Polyester batting is very forgiving with quilting distance. Most brands allow 8-12 inches between quilting lines, and some bonded polyester battings can go even further. This makes polyester a great choice for tied quilts where you only tack every 4-6 inches. However, the wider you space your quilting, the more the batting may shift over time.

Machine wash cold or warm and tumble dry on low heat. Polyester batting is very durable and holds up well to repeated washing. Avoid high heat in the dryer as it can melt or distort the synthetic fibers. No special first-wash treatment needed since there is no shrinkage.
