Pre-cuts come in fixed sizes (2.5" strips, 5" squares, 10" squares, 18" x 21" rectangles, etc.). Yardage is purchased by the yard from a full bolt (typically 42-44" wide) and can be cut to any dimension. Pre-cuts are limited by their size; yardage is limited only by how much you buy.

Yardage excels at providing volume — enough of one fabric for an entire quilt back, wide borders, or large applique pieces.
