Dessert Rolls

Dessert rolls are 5-inch-wide strips cut to the full width of fabric (approximately 42 inches). They are the wider cousin of the jelly roll, offering twice the strip width and significantly more fabric per strip for bolder, larger-scale piecing.

This format bridges the gap between jelly rolls and layer cakes. The 5-inch width gives you the versatility to sub-cut into smaller units — two 2.5-inch strips, or a series of 5-inch squares — while maintaining the strip format that is ideal for efficient strip-piecing techniques.

Dessert rolls are a Moda Fabrics specialty and are less universally available than jelly rolls or charm packs. However, they are prized by experienced quilters who appreciate the flexibility of a wider strip that can be adapted to many different pattern requirements.
