Concentric strips spiral around a center square, split into light and dark halves.
Begin with a center square, traditionally cut from red fabric to symbolize the hearth. Add strips in a clockwise rotation: first to the right of the center, then across the top, then down the left side, then across the bottom. Press each strip away from the center before attaching the next one. Keep all strips the same width for a uniform appearance. The light and dark fabric split creates the signature diagonal line when multiple blocks are arranged side by side in a quilt layout.
