A nine-patch block with HST corners, rectangular side units, and a solid center square.
Construct the Churn Dash in a nine-patch arrangement. Make 4 HST corner units first. For the 4 side units, sew a light and dark rectangle together along their length. The center is a single square. Assemble in 3 rows: HST-rectangle unit-HST for top and bottom rows, rectangle unit-center square-rectangle unit for the middle row. Press seams in alternate directions for nesting.
